Obituary: Died, at the residence of her son, William Zierolf, in Marion township, Henry county, O., on the 3d day of November, 1886, Mrs, Mary Annie Zierolf, relict of Casper Zierolf, who died in 1880, aged 76 years, 2 months and 18 days. Mrs. Zierolf was born in Bavaria, Germany, emigrating to this country in 1837; she landed in Boston where she met and married Casper Zierolf. Residing in Boston for eleven years they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1849, thence to Pennsylvania. In 1861 the young couple in search of a permanent home, removed to Liverpool, Medina county, Ohio; from there to the wilds of Henry county, O., settling in Marion township in 1862, where by frugal industry the woods disappeared and green meadows and fertile fields smiled upon their labors. Six children blessed their union all of whom reached man's estate, the pride of the declining years of honest parents, and honored by all who know them. Her son James died in 1876; two sons and a daughter live in Oregon, one daughter in Defiance and one son on the old homestead in Marion township. In all, she leaves five children and twenty-seven grand children who mourn her loss. The entire community extends to them a heartfelt sympathy at the sudden taking off of one that shall always be held in fond remembrance. She was ever ambitious for her children, always ready, even anxious to sacrifice her personal comfort for theirs. Her interest was all centered in them and their spiritual welfare. She died as she lived, an exemplary christian, firm in her belief, and unswerving devotion to the teachings of the Catholic church. The funeral services were held at the residence of her son, Wm. Zierolf, Rev. Father Michenfelder officiating. Her children, grand children and hosts of friends mingle their tears in the gloom that was shed by all. May she rest in peace. |
