Obituary: Washington. May 14. Justice William B. Woods, of the Supreme Court of the United States, died at his residence In this city at 12:10 p. m. today It is understood to be the desire of Justice Woods' family to have him buried In Ohio, where he was born. The funeral arrangements have not been made as yet. Justice William B. Woods' home prior to the war was at Newark. He represented Licking county In the State Legislature and was chosen Speaker of the House. He served In the army during the war and was appointed to a United States district judgeship in the South after the war and was subsequently appointed to the United States Supreme court bench. Judge Woods was one of the most brilliant of Ohio's young Democrats in 1860 and was universally popular on the bench. It is seldom that a man is found who possesses in so high a degree those elements of character which are essential to popularity. |
