Died in Custody

The rumor which was going around last Thursday to the effect that one of the inmates of the county jail had committed suicide, was found upon investigation to be untrue,

Peter Witham, an old man of some 70 years, living near Deshler, had been adjudged insane several weeks ago and sent to Toledo. The authorities at the asylum refused to receive him and he was sent back to Napoleon and lodged in the jail until further arrangements could be made. The old man was very feeble and Thursday morning was found dead in his chair. Old age and grief seemed to be the only causes. Relatives near Deshler were notified and the body was sent to that place Saturday.
