Obituary: The following notice is taken from the Danville (Ill.) News. It refers to a former resident of this place and is published by request: The funeral services of Mrs. Lear Wells were held at the residence of her son-inlaw Wm. Shepherd, 441 Jackson street, at 1:30 p. m. yesterday, conducted by Rev. W. A. Smith, pastor of First M. E. Church. Mr. Smith called special attention to the wifehood, motherhood and sainthood of the deceased. Mrs. Wells' former name was Overmier. She was born in Pennsylvania March 10th, 1800, and died in Danville, Ill., January 3d, 1888, and was therefore nearly seventy-nine years of age. She was married to Wm. Wells Jan. 28th, 1830, who died twenty-four years ago. Mrs, Wells never remarried. She was the mother of eight children, three sons and five daughters. One son and two daughters survive her, viz: Levi Wells, of Hector, Ohio, and Mrs. Lucinda Shepherd and Mrs. Martha Riley, of this city. She united with the Lutheran church when nine years of age, and remained a member of that church until twenty-nine years ago, when she became a member of the M. E. Church, and continued a consistent Christian in that community up to the day of her death. She was a womanly woman, true and faithful in all her relations in life. At the conclusion of the services a large number of friends followed the remains to Spring Hill cemetery, where the interment occurred. The following named gentlemen acted as pall bearers: Benjamin Burgess, James Mather, E. Zorbaugh, Gottlieb Maier, Chas. Gillespie and Joseph Greer. |
