Obituary:

The death of Rev. C. A. Verlet, the pastor of the Catholic congregation, which took place on the 3rd inst. has cast a heavy gloom over his flock. He had been ailing for weeks and months, but until two weeks before his demise fulfilled the functions of his pastorate. His funeral which took place on last Tuesday, was attended by thirty of his co-laborers and an immense multitude of people from far and near. A richly draped catafalgue was placed within the sanctuary of the church, upon which rested the remains, while a solemn requiem was chanted under the direction of Rev. J. B. Jung, of Defiance. The Very Rev. Monsig. Boff, Vicar General of the diocese, delivered a very appropriate and touching sermon, both in English and German. Among the clergy present we noticed Revs. Ankly, of Wooster; Pitts and Bihn, of Tiffin; O'Brien and Moran, of Toledo; Vollmayer, of Custar; Pitz, of Napoleon; Ruppert, of Bellvue; Miller of Ottoville; Braschler, of Ft Jennings; Kinkaid, of Doylestown; Harks, of Massillon; Bertemus, of New Cleveland, and Panusko, of Holgate, besides several more whose names we could not learn. The remains of Father Verlet were deposited in a vault in the center of the cemetery, where as soon as possible a suitable monument will be erected. The deceased leaves no relatives in this country, but an only brother, who is a colonel of a French cavalry regiment. His memory will long be cherished by his flock, as well as by those with whom he came in contact otherwise. May he rest in peace.
