Obituary:

DIED - At the residence of her Father, ALEXANDER CRAIG, Esq., near his place, on the 8th inst., Mrs. SARAH MARIA, wife of Dr. O. H. TYLER, of Ionia county, Michigan, and daughter of ALEXANDER and SUSAN CRAIG, aged 28 years 11 months and 8 days, leaving a husband and two children.
The deceased had been afflicted with disease of the lungs for some two years, but the immediate cause of her death appears to have been inflammation of the Stomach and Bowels.
The loss of one from our midst by death is at all times a source of pain and regret to friends, but this sad bereavement is one that is felt to be doubly so, not only to her immediate relations, but to a very large circle of friends and neighbors.
In her childhood she exhibited those mild and pure virtues that so eminently adorn the female character, and in her womanhood, as a wife and mother, she exemplified all the Heavenly and Christian graces which this world can neither give nor take away.
The deceased had become a member of the Baptist Church, and was a firm and unwavering believer in the atonement and sacrifice of the blessed Saviour, and she claimed this atonement and sacrifice for herself, and by faith in its merits found peace and joy in believing. When all earthly efforts had failed, and when the care and solicitude of parents and sisters could do no more, she was able to exclaim, in the language of that beautiful verse --
"Jesus can make a dying bed
Feel soft as downy pillows are,
While on his breast I lean my head,
And breathe by life out sweetly there."
and requesting her sister to hand her a piece of paper, she write in a steady hand the following beautiful lines:
"If ever you meet with trials
Or troubles on the way,
Then cast your care on Jesus
And don't forget to pray."
Thus has passed from among us our pure and gentle Sarah. What is our loss is more [smudged] to her. May we emulate her example.
