In Memoriam

New Albany, Ind., April 28th, 1889

Lines dedicated to the memory of our much loved and cherished friend, Celia J. Tressler, who has bid farewell to earth and fone to try the realities of another world.

Oh, can it be, that death at last
Has borne our friend and loved one hence,
All in her prime, with future hopes.
But, laws of man have no defense.

How sad to think that death at last,
We'll never see her face again;
When thinking of her cheerful mirth,
It sooths my heart, though filled with pain.

When last we met how loath was she
From loved associates to part,
The friends so tried, her loving friends,
Seemed firmly bound around her heart.

But she must go, must say adieu,
Although the parting fave her pain;
We clasped her hand in friendship true,
And hoped that we would meet again.

We can not meet again below.
We ne'er shall clasp the mortal hand,
But if we're faithful we shall go
And join her in that better land.

Dear friend, we'll ever think of thee,
Yes, think of thee while life shall last;
We hope thy loving face to see,
When we Death's dark stream have passed.

And then at last with angel hands,
Far, far beyond this world of pain,
We'll meet at last to clasp glad hand,
And never, never part again.

Well ne'er forget thy words, dear friend,
Oh, blessed Jesus take me home;
Death ends all here, and in that end
God kindly takes and claims his own.

Mrs. Jennie Kepler
