Obituary: The many friends in Napoleon of Miss Bertie Travis, of Defiance, were horrified Wednesday to learn that she had been instantly killed in Tecumseh, MichThe particulars of the sad accident are as follows: Miss Travis had been visiting in Tecumseh, Mich., for several weeks. Wednesday afternoon while out driving with Mr. L. Stewart the horse became frightened at a band. The driver succeeded in partially getting it under control when it again became wild and dashing violently to one side threw Mr. Stewart beneath it's heels. Running a block at a fearful gait Miss Travis evidently thought that her only hope was in jumping. which she attempted with fatal results. She struck the ground on the back part of her head and when picked up a few seconds later blood was gushing from her mouth. She was quickly taken in a drug store near by, but expired in 15 minutes. The remains were taken to her home in Defiance Thursday and the funeral held Saturday afternoon. Miss Travis was well known in Napoleon, having many friends among our young society people. |
