Obituary: ACCIDENTALLY SHOT DEAD,? A terrible accident occurred in Damascus township on the 2d, by which Jas. Teats lost his life. The particulars of the sad affair are as follows, as we learn them: Wm. F. Morehead and James Teats were at the residence of Wm. Morehead, Sr., in Damascus township, and were handling a double-barrel- shot gun. While the gun was in the hands of young Morehead it was accidentally discharged, the contents of one barrel striking Teats in the center of the breast, killing him instantly. The weapon was a breech-loader and was not known to be loaded. The accident occurred at about 5 p. m. The same evening an inquest was held, conducted by John Love, J. P., when it was found that the young man came to his death by accident and no blame could be held against Wm. Morehead. The unfortunate young man was aged 15, and his untimely death cast a gloom over the entire neighborhood. The greatest of care should be exercised in the handling of fire arms. |
