Obituary: Many friends here will be pained to learn of the death of Major Swigart, which occurred Friday last at his home in Hutchinson, Ka. The deceased was taken sick about the middle of January with la grippe, and believing himself recovered, resumed his work, when a relapse set in. On Saturday, February 27, he arose and after breakfast went into the room adjoining to smoke. While there he suffered from a stroke of apoplexy. He managed to reach the door of the dining room where his daughter Bessie was, but was unable to speak. She hurried to his assistance, medical aid was promptly summoned, but proved of no avail. The paralytic stroke was a fatal one, and after lingering for five days he died on Friday evening at 8 o'clock. The remains were interred at Hutchinson for the present, although eventually they may be removed to Bucyrus and placed beside his wife, who was buried in Oakwood a few years ago. |
