Obituary: STULL Bro. Joseph O. Stull, minister in the Ohio Conference of the Evangelical Association, son of Rev. John Stull and brother of Rev. A. C. Stull of the same Conference, was born in Richland county, Ohio Feb. 16, 1848, and died in Napoleon, Ohio, Dec. 26, 1892, aged 41 years, 10 months and 10 days. His death was sudden and unexpected. At 4 p. m. of the day of his death he was on the street apparently in his usual good health, at 5 p. m. he was dead. The cause of his death was heart failure. His death was peculiarly distressing, not only because of its suddenness but because of his wife's dangerous illness at the time. She was in a state of unconsciousness when he died, and up to the time of the removal of the remains of her husband from their home, she was not aware of her great loss. Her peculiarly sad bereavement appeals to our sympathy and prayers. Even if she recovers, life will never be the same again in that home. Bro. Stull was convened to God in his year and united with the Evangelical Association. In the spring of 1876 he was licensed to preach and received an appointmentHe served the following fields of labor in the Ohio Conference: Flat Rock. 1876-1877; West Salem, 1877-1878; Wilmot 1878-1879; Ashland 1879-1880; Wayne 1880-1883; Pleasant Ridge 1883-1885; Gibsonburg 1885 (the short conference year); Richland, 1888-1891; and Napoleon 1892-1893 up to the time of his death. He thus rendered nearly seventeen years of continued service in the ministry. It can be said of him truthfully what can not be said of all ministers of the Gospel in our Churches, he always received his appointments by the Conference cheerfully. He never murmuredHe was never solicitous or especially concerned about where he would be sent. He had no self-seeking spirit in him. Bro. S. was a skillful, faithful expounder of the Scriptures. He was "a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly divining the word of truth." He held "fast the form of sound words." He preached the word. He did not lower the standard of Bible doctrine and christian experience. He denounced superficiality, believing in, and aiming to do thorough work. He cared little for popularity or the world's favor, caring rather to have the approval of God. He was not only a diligent bearer of the "precious seed," he was also true to the church of his choiceHe was alive to all her interests. In his death the Church has lost a faithful, devoted loyal son. Why he should be called away at this time, in the vigor of manhood, and when he was most needed, not only in his home, but in the Church, we can not understand. Mysterious are the ways of Providence We bow submissively and say "Thy will be done." I know Thy will is right Bro. S. was married to Barbara Haideman in 1869To them were born three children. Besides wife and children, he leaves father and mother, three brothers and two sisters, who, however, sorrow not as those who have no hopeWhile the members of the family were viewing the form of their beloved son and brother for the last time, the bereaved father said “Children be faithful, we will meet again.”? On the same occasion one of the brothers said: "Farewell brother we'll meet again." The funeral services were held in the Emmanuel Church in Morrow county, Ohio. We laid the body of our brother in the cemetery near by to await the ressurection morn. ?They were conducted by the writer, assisted by Rev. J. B. Kanayu of Marion, Ohio.
