Obituary:

Saturday, July 2nd, Mrs. Mary Seeling, a prominent pioneer lady died at her home in East Napoleon, from heart trouble and asthma. The funeral ceremony was held at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in Napoleon, July 4th, Rev. Fischer in charge and the remains laid at rest in Forest Hill cemetery. Mrs. Seeling was one of our oldest pioneers and a lady well known and highly esteemed by her acquaintances, which was necessarily a large number considering her long residence among us. She was born on October 9, 1823, in Prussia, near Erfurt; married November 28th, 1846, to Henry Seeling and came to America the following year, locating at Utica. Living there until 1853, they came to Henry county which place has been their home since. Fifteen years ago the husband and father, Henry Seeling, departed this life. In all, Mrs. Seeling was the mother of six daughters, five of whom survive her, viz: Mesdames Stockman, Meyer, Wagner, Schroeder and Norden. The deceased was a member and ardent co-worker of the St. Paul's Emanuel church, and it is here especially that her death is received with great sorrow and regret. The grief that overwhelms the family in this affliction is shared by all Napoleon.
