Obituary: Our citizens were startled on Monday morning upon learning of the death of Mr. Edwin Scribner, which occurred suddenly. Mr. Scribner but a few hours before his demise was in his usual good health. Sabbath afternoon he complained of a pain in his chest and again on Monday morning, and it was but few minutes after that be breathed his last in this world. At the time of his death Mr. Scribner was staying at the home of his son-in-law W. F. Daggett, on Washington street. He moved with his parents to Henry county from Greenville, Ohio, in the year 1818, when a he was in his 10th year, and has resided in this county ever since. He was probably the oldest resident of the county at the time of his death; but few families were in the county when he moved here, but one house being on the ground where Napoleon now stands. He has seen Napoleon grow to be the pleasant little city it now is from a solitary house and the county from a vast wilderness to its is present high state of cultivation. He was in age 78 years, 10 months and 23 days. His funeral took place yesterday from the Presbyterian church, his remains being followed to the grave by friends and relatives. |
