Obituary: Sauer -- The subject of this notice, Henry Sauer, was born in Hessen, Germany, Sept. 12th, 1812, and died near New Bavaria, Ohio, July 26th, 1886, hence at the time of his death was 73 years, 10 months and 14 days of age. He came to Ohio in the year 1834 and settled in Cuyahoga county, near Cleveland, where he remained about two years and from thence to Pleasant Tp., Henry county, Ohio, which was at that time nothing but a dense wilderness. He was married in the year 1836 to Mana Hofrechter, and from that time to this present, has been identified with the people, the interests and the progress of New Bavaria. He filled faithfully in the home the place of a husband and father, and was beloved in the community as a neighbor and friend. The deceased was, for a number of months, the subject of severe affliction which he endured with great patience, waiting calmly and sweetly the approach of the destroyer, and when the closing scene drew near, without fear, he entered upon the fairer plains of a blissful immortality, where he will await the coming of a large circle of relatives who will remember him with feelings of tender regard and love. He leaves an aged companion, the wife of his youth, three sons and six daughters to mourn their loss which is doubtless his eternal gain. For may years he has lived a life of faith in the Savior, and his consistent walk has declared the reality of the religion he professed. The funeral services were held in the German Reformed Church, of which he was a faithful member, at 10 o'clock a.m., July 29th, conducted by Rev. Henry Nau, and assisted by Rev. Ferer, of Defiance. Fold the hands gently across the white breast, Subscriber, New Bavaria, O., August 2d, 1886. |
