Obituary: Obituary. Again have we laid away to rest all that was mortal of Emily S. Reid, wife of Isaac M. Reid. She was born at Palmyra, New York, Oct. 7th, 1831, and died Feb 12th, 1884, aged 61 years, 4 months and 5 days; was married at Viena, Michigan, to Isaac M. Reid September 22d, 1850, and made their home at Toledo, Ohio, for a number of years, and in 1872 moved from Toledo to Florida, Ohio, and lived there till she departed this life. Unto these parents were born one daughter and one son who now mourn the loss of a fond mother. About 12 years ago she united with the M. E. Church on probation, but never had the privilege to be taken into full membership with that church as they had moved from that place to another place, and since that time had not connected herself to any branch of the church, but recently this sister not being satisfied in regard to baptism, desired to be baptized again by pouring. This was attended to on December 9th, 1883 -- also partook of the sacrament of the Lord's supper and united with the United Brethren Church at Florida, Ohio. Her sphere of duty for some years was in the home. Inheriting a predisposition to disease, she was afflicted for some years, and on that account unfit for hard work. Her christian character and life were above reproach. She suffered long, but with almost more than human patience, calmly and quietly the sun of her life went down, and with her the battle of life was over and to her had come the eternal Sabbath. The bereaved husband and two children, brother, sister, mother and many other relatives and friends are with us still and deserve the sympathy and prayer of the church. The family and home have been wrecked and broken, but may be rebuilt in heaven. Our holy Christianity brings severed ones together in the better country and human nature with a grander life than it can possibly have here, and all the bereaved ones can do is to wait and trust. A few evenings before this sister took her departure to another world, she said to those around her dying bedside that she was almost to heaven. We trust the community will heed the funeral text delivered by H. H. McNutt, pastor in charge on this occasion, from the 14th chapter of Job and 10th verse. "But man dieth and wasteth away; yea, man giveth up the ghost and where is he?" It is hard to part with friends here, of those whom we love and have been permitted to pass days and years of happiness together, but we have the prospect of meeting them again if we heed the text delivered on the occasion. The funeral took place at the United Brethren church at Florida, of which church this sister was a member and her body was conveyed to the cemetery in the village of Florida, there to remain until the resurrection morning, but her spirit has gone to join her classmates in that better land, and now sings the songs of the redeemed, and is safely housed where the storms of life cannot reach her, and where the infirmities of old age will no longer burden her. May the great head of the church sustain and preserve unto everlasting life the husband and two children. A few more years will pass away, |
