Obituary: Pugh - Elizabeth Pugh was born August 7th, 1811, in Crawford county, Ohio. She died March 18th, 1889, aged 77 years. 7 months and 11 days. Her maiden name was Cooper. Having been left a widow, she was married to Alex. Pugh in 1863. He departed this life about eight years ago. She leaves two children, a son and daughter, to mourn the loss of a mother?s presence in this world. "Granma Pugh," as she was familiarly known, became a christian in early life and has been a life-long member of the M. E. church. She has always by word and deed shown in her life the power of Christ to save. She loved Christ, she loved his cause, she loved his church. He was to her, "the chiefest among ten thousand, the one altogether lovely." She offered a great deal during her long sickness, and for two years and more a cancer has gradually eaten out her bodily vitality. But no pain or disease could prey upon her spiritual life. She was patient and kind amid all her suffering, strong in faith and could trust in the promises and lean upon the strength which God gives to his people. Death to her was an end of suffering and the beginning of an eternal blessedness. Where the one ceased at the margin of the river the other began. Not only are the family and relatives bereft, but the world and the church have lost the presence of a consecrated life. And though the loss of a life given to Christ is almost inestimable, we may comfort ourselves by knowing that our loss is her gain; and now while we trend the ordinary path of life waiting till our change comes, she is in the Paradise of God awaiting the coming of those whom she has left. Let us imitate her example by following Christ. /signed/ T. H. C. |
