Obituary: Run Over by the Cars and Killed -- The 2:40 passenger train Saturday afternoon struck Thomas Pennell, while he was walking on the track near the old agricultural works, killing him almost instantly. Mr. Pennell being deaf and dumb, it is supposed he was unaware of the approach of the train. He was struck by the cowcatcher and thrown upon the engine, and from there into the ditch; he was walking in the middle of the track when the engine struck him, and the only bad bruise upon the body was on the back part of the head, which was badly crushed in. The engineer immediately stopped his train and backed up to where the unfortunate man lay; after being placed upon the cars he gave one or two gasps and expired. Mr. Pennell some years ago was similarly run upon by the cars and came near loosing his life. His funeral took place Sabbath. |
