Obituary:

PATTERSON -- Died, in Bellefontaine, on the night of December 8, 1870, Mrs. ELLEN PATTERSON, wife of Mr. DAVID PATTERSON, aged 79 years, 10 months, and 6 days.
Mrs. PATTERSON whose maiden name was McCRACKEN, was born in Adams county, Pa., near Gettysburg, February 21, 1791. Consequently, she nearly lived out her four score years. Her birth place was within the bounds of the Lower Marsh Creek Church, and into the full communion of that Church she was received in 1818, under the ministry of Rev. WM. PAXTON. October 28, 1818, she was united in marriage to her surviving husband, and on the 9th of November they took up their journey for Ohio, settling first in Muskingum county. Thence in 1832 they removed to Bellefontaine, where they have resided ever since, with the exception of eight years, four of them spent in Oxford, Ohio, and four in Connersville, Indiana. These are the salient points of her outward history.
King Lemuel's mother taught him to believe and say: "A woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised." Mrs. PATTERSON is therefore worthy of praise. Before marriage she chose God as her portion and guide, and she was walked in his fear ever since. Her piety shone with a steady light, which all saw and owned to be heaven kindled. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also praiseth her, and the church and world join in the verdict.
Her last years, the last one especially, were years of suffering, but with all, she trusted in God, and never murmured, and more than once, as she went down to the very verge of Jordan, and her feet were even laved by the waters of its hither shore, she was able to say, "I know whom I have believed, I trust in a strong Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Let me die the death of the righteous!"
