Obituary: Sudden Death. On Monday George Palmer, a colored barber of Liberty Center, came to Napoleon to consult Dr. Harrison concerning a swelling or tumor on the calf of his right leg, which had been troubling him more or less for thepast six months. At his office, Dr. Harrison, with Dr. Shoemaker, made an examination of the limb and came to the conclusion that it was an aneurism, a rupture of the coats of an artery. A needle was inserted in the swelling when the patient fainted, from which he failed to revive, although every effort was made revive him, and in the course of an hour or two was pronounced dead. The deceased was a married man, about 38 years old, and, we understand, had been in the habit of eating opium. No blame can be attached to Dr. Harrison, as using the needle in such cases is common and not considered dangerous. The body of the unfortunate man was taken to his former home in Virginia for burial. |
