Obituary: MOWERY - John Franklin Mowery, son of Samuel and Elizabeth Mowery, was born in Washington township, Pickaway county, O., June 27th, 1841, died at his home in Harrison township, Henry county, O., April 30th, 1908, aged 66 years 10 months and 3 days. He was the oldest of 8 children and his father dying while he was comparatively a young man, he was obliged to take up the work laid down by his father and to some of the younger children he seemed most like a father, as they went to him for comfort as well as advice. His aged mother passed to her reward just one month ago. He was married to Emaline Binkley May 30th, 1861. In just one month they would have been married 49 years. To them were born 6 sons and 2 daughters, the oldest son dying in infancy and was laid to rest in the family burying ground in Allen county. Mr. and Mrs. Mowery came to Henry county, O., in 1865, and settled on the farm where the remainder of his life was spent and where he died surrounded by his family who have so tenderly cared for him during his long illness. He often spoke of his anxiety for his wife, and was so afraid she would not be able to care for him long as he lived, and was so anxious for the time to come when he could be at rest. Often he would say, "by and by these blind eyes shall be opened and I shall see and know as I am known." He has for years been a member of the Reformed church. He will be missed as he was held in high esteem in the community in which he spent the best years of his life. He leaves to mourn their loss a wife, 5 sons, Albert, Milton and Walter of Henry county, and Harley and Orley of Toledo, and 2 daughters, Mrs. Ed Hockman and Mrs. Will Decke of Henry county, 18 grand children, 4 brothers and 1 sister, Mrs. M. L. Whipp of West Cairo, O., and numerous relatives and friends. The funeral discourse was delivered by Rev. C. A. Rowe of Leo, Ind., who was a former pastor of the deceased. The text was Isaiah, 38 chapter, 16:19 verses. Bro. Mowery was a member of the Reformed church and was devoted to its best interests, serving as an Elder for many years. |
