WITH A LASH

From a Maple Tree Daniel Minnick Chokes Himself to Death

Daniel Minnick was a farmer living about 4 mile north of Grand Rapids. He was of sociable disposition and seemingly content with his lot, hence it was with the greatest consternation that his body was found hanging to a tree early Wednesday morning.

As developed by the coroner's inquest, the particulars are these:

At breakfast he acted strangely which conduct reached a climax when he said, "Mary I'm going to die to-day." Still nothing was thought of the statement as he was of a joking disposition.

About 6 o'olock he took the cows to pasture and remaining longer than usual, search was instituted. His son, Jerome, found him hanging to a maple tree with his whip lash. He was at once cut down and the coroner notified. It seems that he had tried several other trees before he found one that suited him. No cause oan be assigned for the rash act beyond that he was involved im a law suit and had considerable trouble over stone roads.

The remains were buried Friday.
