Obituary: TERRIBLE DEATH -- A girl thirteen years of age, by the name of MILLER, was burned to death in Monroe township, in this county, on Thursday last. The house was in charge of herself and her sister, her father and brothers being out in the field harvesting. The sister was in the garden. The girl attempted to speed the kindling of the fire by pouring oil from the kerosene can, when an explosion occurred, enveloping her in flames. The sister came to try to rescue her, but was badly burned in the vain attempt. The victim ran out of doors shrieking, and finally fell in the grass, where her father found her on his return from the field. She lingered speechless and insensible until nine o'clock at night, when she died. This is another warning; but such warnings occur every day, and people do not seem to heed them. |
