Obituary: John Miller Ends His Life at Grelton Aged Man Placed Neck on Railroad Track as Passenger Train Starts Up John Miller, 70, who resides near Grelton, committed suicide Tuesday morning when he placed himself under a passenger coach and the heavy wheels severed his head from the body. Miller was apparently in good spirits early in the morning and contrary to his usual custom decided to walk to Grelton instead of riding. When he arrived in town he went to the Clover leaf depot and waited for the arrival of the eight o'clock train. During his hour's stay at the depot several people entered into conversation with him and his answers, though short, were entirely rational. When the train arrived he crossed over and just before it pulled out he knelt down on the road bed at about the center of the last coach and placed his neck on the track. His hands were folded to his chest. When the train started the last two wheels ran over him. Some members of the section crew saw Miller bend over beneath the passenger coach, but they believed him to be a car inspector and thought nothing of it. Miller has been a resident near Grelton for the past 40 years and has always been a highly respected citizen. He was a member of the Grelton M. E. church. He leaves a wife and two sons. |
