Obituary: The following, which we clip from the Akron Beacon of the 20th, refers to a former resident of this city, Miss Maggie McGurk, who some years ago taught the Catholic schools. She is a sister of Mrs. Mary Vocke: "The funeral services over the remains of the late Mrs. Charles McDonough, which were held at St. Vincent De Paul's church on West Market street this morning, were attended by a large number of the friends and acquaintances of the deceased, showing the high regard and esteem in which she was held by those who were so fortunate as to know her in this life. At 9 o'clock, the remains were carried into the church accompanied by J. J. Bantry, Michael Reilly, I. J. Dyas, W. T. Tobin, H. E. Cahill and John C. Weber acting as pall bearers, followed by the family and more intimate friends of the deceased. The funeral procession immediately proceeded to the altar, where the coffin was deposited. The beautiful burial service of the Catholic church, including the celebration of High Mass, was gone through with, after which Father T. F. Mahar addressed the audience in a feeling and impressive manner setting forth the loving qualities and womanly virtues of her who now lay before them enclosed in the shroud of death. When the services had been concluded the coffin was placed in the vestibule and the remains were viewed, after which the coffin was placed in the hearse and the procession moved to the Catholic cemetery, where the body of this noble woman was consigned to the grave." |
