DEATH ON THE RAIL!

Oft Told Tale of a Tramp and Whisky Bottle, A.C. McDonald Found Dead, West of Napoleon.

Early Saturday morning as the switchman of the Wabash was making his rounds he discovered the body of a man in a semi upright position on the timber supporting the cattle gaard where the road crosses Washington street.

The body was within a few inches of the rail and the only conclusion to be arrived at is that he was asleep so close to the track that some projection of the west bound midnight freight struck him in the back of the bead causing instant death.

His head hung over the timber and bled profusely on the sand beneath where lay his hat and a whisky bottle half full.

Authorities were at once notified and the body conveyed to Bitzer's morgue where it was laid out and subjected to the gaze of hundreds of inguisitive eyes.

From papers foundon on his person it was ascertained that ho was a member of the Painters Union at Hartford City, Ind.

He was in town Friday visiting with friends, having worked here two years ago at his vocation for Lee Parker, Geo. McColley and others.

When last seen Fiiday night he was in a hopeless state of intoxication headed toward the west on foot. He had expressed himself the day previous as intending to go to Hicksville that evening, and as he said he had some twenty-five dollars. There was no other supposition than that he would take the cars. However it seems he blew his money in for drink during the day and left town in a strapped condition as no money whatever was found on his body.

He was a young man, probably thirty years old, and withal good looking and finely dressed. An examination of his body showed a deep gash in the back of his head; the face and body bruised, while the cramped position indicated a broken back.
