Obituary: Flatrock Township has lost two of its old citizens in the persons of J. C. McCracken and wife. Mr. McCracken died on January 26th, 1892, and was followed by his wife two days later. The funeral of both took place last Sunday from the late residence, Rev. Donahey conducting the services Jefferson C. McCracken was born near Batavia, Genisee Co.. New York, March 24, 1814. In 1832 he went to New York City where he served in the capacity of bookkeeper for several years, coming to Florida, Henry County, Ohio in 1842. After the construction of the canal, on which he was contractor, he entered the mercantile business. In 1855 he moved to Walworth county, Wis., again following the business of contractor, assisting in the construction of a number of railroads in the [smudged]. In October, 188?, he returned to?his family in Henry county, where he resided up to the time of his death, which occurred January 26th, 1892. His age was 77 years,10 months and 26 days. Louisa Waite McCracken was born in Scioto County, Ohio, June 2d, 1816. She moved with her parents, Reuben and Mary Waite, to Flatrock tp., Henry County, O, in 1833. She married Jefferson O. McCracken February 27th, 1845. She died January 28th, 1892, only 50 hours after the death of her husband, aged, 75 years, 7 months and 26 days. She is the mother of five children, all living, and was one of a family of six, two brothers and one sister surviving her. |
