Obituary: Some four months ago Harry Mattix, a youth 17 years of age came from Coshocton county to Napoleon in search of employment. David Bender, living on Clinton street, is his uncle and with whom he stopped. Shortly after his arrival he was taken with quick consumption, thought by many to have been super induced by exposure in search of work. The disease fastened its greedy hold upon the delicate constitution and he was confined to his bed four long months, during which he gradually wasted away. Mr. and Mrs. Bender were to the invalid the personification of kindness, but being in straitened circumstances outside help was necessary. The King's Daughters nobly responded to the call and kindly and administered to his wants all through his sickness, and tenderly soothed the last moments of the un fortunate stranger. He died Thursday and, may it be said that although he was a stranger among us, his patient and sweet disposition, his expressed resignation towards the edict of Him in striking him, so young, to a bed of sickness and death: his gratefulness to those who interested themselves in his welfare, made for him loving friends who are bowed down in grief at his sad death. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church Saturday morning, Rev. A. F. Berry having charge of the ceremonies. |
