Obituary: David Marckel, a prominent farmer of Adams township. Defiance county, was drowned on the evening of the 8th. In company with Martin Snyder, a neighbor, he was driving along the road and when he reached Bean Creek bridge in Tiffin township, found the waters up over the road, a rushing torrent. The noise frightened his horse and the buggy was backed down the embankment, throwing the occupants out into the water, resulting in the drowning of MarckelMr. Snyder saved himself but was unable to render assistance to his companion. He at once gave the alarm, but the unfortunate man was past all aid. He was about fifty years of age and leaves a wife and large family of children to mourn his untimely death. A party was at once organized to search for the body but in spite of the diligent search it has not been recovered. It is thought the swift current swept it to the Maumee river. |
