Obituary:

Death by lightning is getting to be frequent, yet there are but few modes of exit more tragic. The latest case in Henry county is that of an aged widow who was killed instantly while attempting to shield herself and room from the rain. She was a resident of the eastern part of Deshler. Early on Tuesday morning, the 7th, she was awakened by the approach of a storm and had arisen to fix the window, there being a pane of glass out, and while in the act of doing this the roof of the building was struck near the chimney passing down through the opening in the window where she stood, striking her in the breast killing her instantly, setting fire to her clothing, which was somewhat burned from her body. The family consisting of seven, all slept upstairs in two rooms divided by a partition, none of the rest were injured, with the exception of a daughter and a little boy who were considerably shocked. It appears that Mrs. Lyons was always afraid during a thunder storm and on getting up to look after the window had called to her daughter and one of her sons to get up that there was a terrible storm approaching. They were in the act of doing so when the shock came. The damage to the building was light, the worst was the tearing of the plastering off the front room down stairs. Mrs. Lyons was 63 years of age and the mother of nine children, eight of whom survive The family have been residents or Deshler for a number of years. The funeral occured on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at the M. E. Church, Rev. Winter officiating. Her remains were interred in the Deshler cemetery.
