Obituary: Lumbardy — It becomes the duty to chronicle the death of another one of Flatrock township's citizens in the person of Caroline Lumbardy, who was born in Crawford counyy, Ohio, February 9th, 1859, and died February 4th, 1894, aged 34 years, 11 months and 27 days. She was married to Frederick Lumbardy May 21, 1877, to this union was born five children, four girls and one boy. She leaves behind, an affectionate husband, father and mother, two brothers and three sisters, while four sisters and three brothers preceded her in death. She bad united with the German Reformed church at Florida and lived a consistent member until death. Her last words were that she "was going to her father in Heaven, and died happy in the Lord. Thus a mother and wife in the midst of life and the enjoyment of hallowed associations has been taken from her home and friends and those to whom her presence was a necessity, are left desolate, yet comforted by the hope of life and immortality and a joyful reunion in the World to come. Transplanted to her Heavenly home, we can no more clasp her friendly hand nor hear her gentle voice speak to us in welcome tones. It is sad to think we will never see her again, here on earth, but it is heart-beaking to know that we shall meet again in Heaven to be separated no more, if we who are left to mourn are all faithful unto death. A mother’s love, how thrilling the sound; the angel spirit which watched over infant years and cheered us with her smile, How faithfully does memory cling to the last fading moments of the sweet council of a mother's tongue, and how intently do we hang over the scenes of our childhood by the fond recollections of waking eyes which never close while a single throb of sorrow or misfortune disturb our mother. Oh, how can we do justice to a mother’s love, ever constant and ever watchful through sickness and affliction from our cradle to the grave. Who can sufficiently repay the mother's kindness. Adversity may darken our pathway, yet through all, the light of a mother's love remains the same. The christian fidelity of a kind mothers commands, the acceptance of our holy religion to her children. It is everlasting testimony to console her family and friends that she has passed from a world of sorrow to a Heaven of joy and peace. Now though she has departed, we ashall miss her in many places. May the Lord sustain the sorrowing husband and children and bring them all at last to meet again in the "Sweet by-and-by." The funeral took place at her late residence, conducted by Rev. Belman. The interment was in the Brinkman cemetery. Peace to her ashes. Caroline, thou hast left us, We know that you are happy, I. W. Card of Thanks To the dear, good friends who so kindly ministered unto our dear mother during her hours of suffering. And those who so generously stood by us and aided us by their help and sympathy in our sudden and great bereavement, and for their assistance in the last sad offices for the burial of mother and wife and treasured one, we tender our heart's most sincere and grateful thanks, and ask for them and the giver of every good gift, that when cometh their hour of trials, that they may have kind friends as they have proved to be to us, and may Heaven's blessings rest upon you is the earnest wish of Fred. Lumbardy and Family. |
