Obituary:

DIED - On Sunday, August 21st, 1853, at his uncle's residence in Liberty township, Henry county, Ohio, Mr. WILLIAM LOOMIS, (formerly of Dekalb county, Ind.) aged 20 years 11 months and 29 days.
Mr. LOOMIS, whose loss is deeply felt by a large number of relatives and friends as well here as at home, was a young man of truly pious principles, and one who had given, even in childhood, manifestation of piety, having been for the last five years a worthy and esteemed member of the Methodist church. Pursuant to the design of obtaining an education, the better to discharge his duty to his God, he left his home in the west at the request of his uncle, to spend a few months with him. He had been here but a few weeks when he was attached with Typhoid fever, and after an illness of three weeks, on Sabbath morning last, he sank back and expired without a struggle -- falling sweetly to sleep, as we believe, in the arms of the Redeemer.
His friends were sent for as soon as thought necessary and though he lay in a state of perfect unconsciousness when they arrived, from which he did not recover, they expressed their confidence in the belief that their deeply lamented loss was his infinite gain.
The last sad rite of interment was performed last Monday with appropriate ceremony, when the friends returned to their western home. A lonely group have left to rest in a strange land an affectionate brother and dutiful and devoted son.
We deeply sympathize with the friends of the deceased, especially that of a younger sister who accompanied him here and who watched over him with untiring assiduity and a more than sisterly care and affection through the whole of his protracted illness. She expressed with her last "farewell" the hope of "meeting him in heaven," and judging from our acquaintance with the spirit of the departed, we doubt not but he has gone to that realm where sorrow is not known.
May she be strengthened by this hope in all coming trials and be constrained to put her trust in that Savior her brother loved; knowing "He doeth all things well."
