Obituary: Distressing Accident CARL LONG FOUND DROWNED IN THE CANAL AT FLORIDA Body Found After Having Been in the Water Two Hours. Monday afternoon about one o'clock Carl Long, the 5 year old son of John Long at Florida, was found drowned in the canal near the rear of his father's store. Heroic efforts were made at resuscitation but as the boy had been in the water over two hours, the attempt was barren of satisfactory results. The particulars of this most distressing affair are: The boy delighted in following his father about the store or town. Monday morning was not an exception to this practiceup to 11 o'clock when the father noted his absence. However, he supposed that he had gone home and thought no more of it until going home to dinner it was ascertained that he had not been there. Bells were at once rung, the villagers aroused and a search instituted. Every other conceivable place having been visited the cana! abutting Mr. Long's wharf was searched by waiding. This had progressed but a short time when one of the searchers stepped on the little fellow's arm and a moment later he was lifted to the surface. He was stiff, showing him to have been in the water at least two hours, and althongh little hope was entertained for bringing him to, the usual treatment was administered. No signs of life were manifested and the body was taken to the family residence. The faneral took place yesterday. The sympathy of Mr. and Mrs. Long's many friends in Napoleon go out to them in this sad hour of bereavement. |
