Coroner Haly Makes His Report

He Finds That the Intant Died From Asphyxia

Charges of Neglect and Improper Care

After exhuming the body of the infant child of Edward Leonard and making a thorough examination with the assistance of Dr. Bloomfield, Dr. Haly, coroner, made the following report:

Coroner's Report

I, the undersigned, Coroner of Henry county, Ohio, having duly inquired into, as to whom and by what means the infant daughter of Edw. Leonard, whose dead body was found buried in Forest Hill Cemetery the 18th day of July, 1898, came to her death.

After having examined said body and heard the evidence, I do find the deceased to have come to her death from a condition of asphyxia or improper aeration of the blood which was produced by some cause that interfered with natural breathing and which I am unable to discover. I am of the opinion that the babe did not have the proper care and treatment while it lived; in fact, it had no treatment, and while the parents and other members of the family claim the babe was sick, they at the same time admit that they did not use any means whatever to relieve or cure it.

J.S. Haly, Coroner

The coroner also took evidence from Dr. Marvin, Jessie Cristy, Rachael Fritz, Mrs. Jessie Cristy and Mrs. Mat Bigford, which he attached to his report.

This evidence was substantially the same as the investigation given in last week's Northwest. Both report and evidence are filed with the Clerk of Courts. The Coroner has completed his work and it now rests in the hands of the Prosecuting Attorney for further proceedings in the matter.
