Obituary: Minnie J. Leach was born October 16th, 1869 and died near Florida, in Defiance county, Ohio, of inflammation of the bowels Feb. 4th, 1889, aged 19 years 3 months and 18 days. This young lady was engaged to be married to William Karsner, and was to be married on the Sabbath following, but the Insatiable Archer has again drawn his bow and another of our young ladies has been cut down in life's earliest spring time. Less than two weeks of intense suffering served to fade the cheek and quench the brightness of her eye in death. As we stood by her casket in the church and gazed upon her cold pale face and remembered that but a few days ago she was with us joyous and happy, the tears of all her young associates and kind friends flowed freely. Oh, how hard it was to give her up -- to say farewell, Minnie, and to know that we must see her on earth no more forever. The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church at Florida, conducted by Rev. Brake, pastor in charge, where a large crowd of people assembled to attend the services. The early death of this young lady fell like a pall upon the entire community and was wonderfully sad to those who knew her intimately, bound by the ties of friendship and associations of life. We tender to the bereaved friends our hearty condolence in their sad affliction, and trust that they may look to Him, from whence comes all our comforts in these sad hours of trials and bereavements, and trust that the sudden setting of the sun of this young life may bring the young people of this community to reflect upon the brevity of human life and be ready, for such an hour as ye think not the son of man cometh. |
