Obituary:

Killed by the Cars. Sunday morning last as Frank Lannen, night operator at this station, started out to take in the switch lights west of the depot, he discovered the body of a man laying beside the track just opposite the freight house dead. The news soon spread and in a short time a large crowd gathered. Coroner Bitzer arrived and ordered the remains taken to the freight house, where an examination was made of his effects. His name was found to be Frank Kamp, a cigar maker by occupation, having worked in the cigar factory in this city for the past week. Last Saturday after drawing his money, in company with a fellow workman, went to the depot, and as the fast mail arrived, it is supposed he attempted to board it, and in so doing missed his hold, and was in some manner struck a blow on the back of his head, which crashed the skull. When found he was laying on his back, perfectly straight, except his limbs being crossed and his arms under his suspenders across his breast. In his pocket was found $5.75 in silver, a cigar maker's traveling card, and a number of other papers, but none that gave any information as to where he came from, or where his friends or parents reside. he was a member of Cigar Makers Union No. 247, and was buried under the auspices of the Defiance Cigar Factory Union No. 166 and the cigar makers of this place Tuesday in this city. The K. of L. also showed their heartfelt sympathy by attending in a body.
