Obituary: Suicide. Last Satuday morning Coroner Cloud was notified that the dead body of a man had ben found in the woods four and a half miles west of town. The Coroner and several others immediately repaired to the spot and found as reported. The dead body proved to be that of Deitrick Joost, a German 36 years of age. When found the body was swinging in the air about fifteen feet from the ground. It appears that at an early hour Saturday morning Joost got out of bed and taking a clothes line, proceed to the woods, about eighty rods from the house, and climbing a tree he adjusted one end of the rope to a limb of the tree, the other to his neck and took the fatal leap. Despondency, caused by sickness, is supposed to have been the motive. Deceased leaves a wife and several children. Following is the Coroner's verdict: I the undersigned, Coroner of Henry county, having duly inquired into, at to when and by what means Deitrick Joost, whese dead body was found in the woods, in Napoleon township, on Oct. 25th, 1884, after having examined the body and heard the evidence, I do find that the deceased came to his death by suicide by hanging himself by the neck to a tree in said woods. I do further find that no one was accessory to his death. R. M. Cloud, Coroner of Henry Co., O. |
