Obituary:

In Memory of Alice Huston, Died June 1st, 1892.
Fallgolden leaves, and whisper sweet,
About the path where Alice's feet
Have lingered all the summer long,
You danced above a golden head,
Before the bitter tears were shed,
When the wide land was full of song.

Fall tenderly, and whisper low
To breaking hearts that loved her so,
The comfort it was hard to find
When dear heads in the earth are laid;
For as the leaf we all shall fade
But God is good and death is kind.

Though hearts be full and life be dumb,
We see the still, sweet autumn come.
We see the gold leaves in the frost;
"We all do fade," and one by one,
As leaves fall softly in the sun,
We go to meet our loved and lost.

O Alice, loved, and early lost,
We count with pain the cruel cost.
Tears blind us when we try to pray;
But the leaves whisper o'er and o'er
The blessed words you said before
Your sweet soul went the shining way.

"I love you father!" precious one,
Love dieth not, the slow years run.
And time and sorrow make us gray;
But love outlasteth time and death;
So, darling Alice, your latest breath
Shall brighten all the lonely way.

Hid beneath the daisies bloom,
Are Alice's dreamy eyes.
But far above her lovely tomb,
Her home is in the skies;
She was our darling and our pride,
The joy of every heart.
Was like a sunbeam at our side,
That did with her depart.

She come to bless us for awhile,
With sunshine, love and mirth,
With heart so pure and free from guile,
Too pure and good for earth;
She's roaming with the angels bright,
Who tread the other shore,
They took her from our home and sight,
With us to dwell no more.

When spring birds wake us with their song.
At morning, noon and night,
Tis then we always sigh and long,
For Alice’s smile so bright;
But most we miss her form at eve.
When twilight gathers near.
Then to our hearts dark shadows cling.
That bring the silent tears.

Sweetly slumber, gentle Alice,
We will not disturb thy rest.
Dreamy eyes are closed forever,
She is with the blest.
