Obituary:

HURD. At Chicago March 10, 1892, Mrs. J. Hard, nee Elma Richards, aged 33 years. She was born at Melmore, Seneca county, Ohio, June 7, 1858, from which place her parents moved to Napoleon, Ohio, while she was a mere child. Most of her married life was spent in Kansas until Feb. 25, 1891, when she with her family moved to Chicago. Her remains were taken to Hutchinson, Kansas, for interment which occurred Sunday afternoon from the residence of her father, D. Richards, Third Ave. East, conducted by Rev. Sommerville, pastor of the First M. E. Church, taking for his text the well chosen words: "Her Son hath gone down while it is yet day." A large circle of friends and acquaintances united their sympathies in paying their last tribute of respect, among whom were many who had known her in former years, as well as those who so tenderly laid away her sacred dust. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful, giving expression to the many aching hearts. Another happy home has been saddened, a loving companion and mother snatched from the arms of those she so tenderly loved and lived for. A heart-broken husband and three helpless little girls, aged seven and five years, (the babe but two days old) survive and can only wait for a summons to join her.
