Obituary: 1890-01-09 HOLLOPETER Carrie Hollopeter, daughter of David and Adaline Hollopeter, was born August 15th, 1868, and died December 23rd, 1889, aged 21 years, 4 months and 8 days. Carrie had a strong desire to live, labor and do her part in the great battle of human life. She was very studious and ambitions to acquire an education. She taught two terms of school; daring her second term her health failed and she was compelled to yield to the terrible disease, consumption. For three years she was a great but patient sufferer, and when talking of her affliction she always said, "It is all right." Just before her death she repeated several lines of the hymn, "Nearer my God, to Thee," before the hymn was sung. We have good reasons to believe she rests in peace. Carrie had many friends and a large concourse attended her funeral. The sermon was preached by Rev. A. Wellford, assisted by Rev. John Myers; Text: Eccl. 13th chapter and 1st verse. The choir of Sharron M. E. Church, where she attended church and Sabbath school, was present and conducted the singing, which was appropriate and beautiful. She was buried in the beautiful cemetery near Olive Branch Church. |
