Obituary: Liberty News In assuming the unpleasant task of placing before your readers the death of one of our most highly esteemed citizens, (Mr. HENRY HOFFER) a resident of this place for the last seventeen years. I am gratified to say, that by the strictest honesty and integrity his character as a consistent christian and citizen stands entirely above reproach. His religious views were of the Seventh Day Adventist persuasion, his life a glowing light to the honor of his profession. He reached nearly the scriptural age of three score years and ten. His funeral was preached by the Adventist minister residing here, (Elder BIGELOW) who made a strong sermon in proof of their doctrine, supporting every assertion in his discourse by the plainest terms of the bible record, without sophistry or misconstruction of lawyer pleadings, simply giving the word as written, and left it there for a densely packed house to draw their own conclusions. He showed in Bible terms, impossible to be misunderstood by unprejudiced minds, that the second coming of Christ will be the general resurrection, when the graves and the sea shall give up their dead, and all be tried for their stewardship on the earth, and then and there (and at no other time), receive the judgment, and those found worthy, put on the crown of immortality; and many other texts were quoted equally conclusive and positive, without distortion, to substantiate their much persecuted doctrine. |
