Obituary: Another of the old Maumee Valley pioneers has Just passed over the river. Mr. John Hively died on Thursday last, at the residence of his daughter, near the Corners, at the age of eighty-two years and over. For fifty years Mr. Hively has witnessed the onward march of events in this region, and the future historian of these parts must find for him a prominent place among those hardy settlers who first carved homes in the wilderness, associated with the red men and tracked the wild beasts through the tangled forests of the Northwest. One by one these old human landmarks are dropping away and whatever may have been their faults, and foibles, we trust they will remain green in the memories of their decendants (sic), who now reap the reward of their labors. |
