Obituary: HITTS. Near Grelton, Ohio, May 31, 1885, of cancer in the breast, Matilda Hitts, wife of Joseph Hitts, aged 40 years and 9 months. The funeral took place at the Brick Church in Harrison township, on Monday, June 1st. The services were conducted by Rev. C. M. Holderman, from the text: Amos, iv ; 13: "Prepare to meet thy God." He preached an interesting sermon to a large congregation. The deceased was the mother of ten children, eight of whom are still living and keenly feel the loss of a devoted, loving, mother. She always evinced a strong attachment to her children, and had an earnest desire to bring them up in the nurture of the Lord. She was a sufferer for two long years, and, during the last few months of her illness, her agony was intense; but she bore all with Christian patience and fortitude never murmured or complained. Realizing that she was washed in the all-cleansing blood of her blessed Redeemer, she looked with fond anticipation for that glorious hour when she should be released from suffering and he at rest with Jesus. Death to her had no terrors -- when the final summons came she was ready. Besides the husband, eight children, an aged mother, three brothers, two sisters, are a large circle of friends to mourn her departure. Their loss is great, for she was a faithful wife, a self-sacrificing mother, a devout daughter, a loving sister; their loss, however, is her eternal gain. May the Lord comfort the bereaved ones and grant them all a happy reunion in heaven. Farewell, my dear husband, children and friends, J. M. F., SHUNK, Ohio, June 7, 1885. |
