Obituary:

HENDERSONAlonzo C. Henderson died at his home in Hamler, Ohio, Oct. 7th, 1892, at 3 o'clock a. m. He was born in Shelby county, Ohio, Oct. 19th, 1863. He was united in marriage to Miss Mima Gibson, of Sand Ridge, Marion township, Henry county, Ohio, Aug. 29th, 1889, and at the time of his death was aged 28 years, 11 months and 18 days. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church Oct. 9th, conducted by Elder A. B. Delancy to a very large and sympathizing congregation of relatives and friends, after which his remains were taken to the Leipsic cemetery and reverently laid away to await the resurrection mornIn the death of Mr. Henderson by typhoid fever Hamler and vicinity have lost a very active young business man; it does appear that the morning sun was cut down at noon -- in the prime of lifeMr. Henderson has at different times been principal of the Hamler school and has taught a great many term, of school throughout the county and at one time was President of the Henry County Teachers Association, and was foreman in all literature to improve the mind of the young, and has always had the educational welfare of our young people at heart. Mr. Henderson spent much time and money for an education and was as fine a scholar as could be found in this part of the county. To meet and talk with him was to know that you had met a friend. Two year ago they went to the Ada Normal, she studying art and literature while he went on, nearly finishing the course which be had chosen. Early last spring he purchased the Weise store and took possession shortly after, which he run to the satisfaction of all up to the time of his sickness and death, and the home is left unto her desolate. He leaves an affectionate wife, a father, mother, two sisters, and a brother and many relatives and friends to mourn their loss.

Husband dear, how deep we miss thee,
Sorrow's pang can best express;
Thus to see cold death embrace thee,
Doth imbitter my distress.
Vainly for thy step I listen,
Sadly looking round the room?
While with tears my eyelids glisten,
Thou art sleeping in the tomb.

Thus the balm of consolation
Heals the wound that rends the breast,
And the heart's sad desolation,
Turns to gladness, peace and rest.
Thus we feel that death is thwarted,
That he grasps the soul in vain;
And I tell the dear departed
How I long to meet him again.

Husband dear, these tears of sadness,
On thy grave in sorrow shed,
Are the harbingers of gladness,
Gladness, free from doubt and dread.
Death has but thy name engraven
Deeper on my memory?
Hope and love, though sadly riven,
?Draws me dally nearer thee. J.A.R.
