Obituary: SUICIDE! Grim Death Faced with Back Turned Upon an Approaching Engine. On Wednesday afternoon last Henry Helberg was killed on the Wabash track by the local going west about two miles out of town. Some two or three weeks ago the young wife of Mr. Helberg died and her loss so worked upon Mr. H. that be told several of his neighbors that he would kill himself, and it Is thought by many that he took this means of removing himself from earth. On the day of his death he had been in Napoleon, drank considerable and in the afternoon left for his home by the way of the Wabash track. He was on the track when the afternoon freight passed and it was with difficulty that he was warned off the track; it was not long after this that the passenger struck him, the engineer of which did all in his power to get him to leave the track. It is said he looked back at the approaching train, but determinedly remained on the road-bed, which goes to show that it was premeditated suicide. The unfortunate man leaves two small children. Coroner Cloud was notified but he deemed it unnecessary to hold an inquest. |
