In Memoriam

Heckler — Died at the home of her parents in Monroe township, Sunday evening, March 4th, 1894, Laura May, daughter of Henry and Maggie Heckler, aged 9 years, 11 months and 19 days.

Dear Laura, thou hast left us,
We think of you each day,
Our loved and darling school-mate,
You have gone so far away.

We have missed you each day—
Missed you sadly, Laura dear,
But we miss you more sadly,
As the time for school draws near.

We shall think of you so happy,
When at school we need to meet,
It will cause us grief and sorrow,
When we see your vacant seat.

That seat which has been occupied
By one so young and fair,
Oh, it will give us pain and sorrow,
To see it empty there.

Her loving face we shall not see,
Her form from us has fled,
She is in the church yard sleeping,
But to us she is dead.

Then farewell, dearest Laura,
Your sweet face we would love to see,
And we only hope when our last hours come,
We will die happy like thee.

Your school-mates, Laura and May
