Obituary: From St. Paul's Journal, Tiffin, O. HARRIOTT. Miss Ella Harriott died at thehome of her sister in Napoleon, O., on Friday evening, March 1st, and was buried in Tiffin Monday, March 3rd. Miss Harriott had been since 1861 as an adopted daughter to Bro. and sister G. W. Buskirk. They were to her as parents and she to them a daughter in all love and affection. No dying mother ever left a child in better hands. And Ella repaid all the devotion shown her by a most dutiful and filial life. She was a graduate of the Tiffin high school and an accomplished musician. She was a faithful and active member of the church, a devout christian with unclouded faith. For about 12 years she had been a teacher in the Sunday school, and on the day of her burial her casket was tenderly borne by six young men who belonged to her last class. The following expression was adopted by St. Paul's Sunday School, March 3rd.: In the good Providence of God one of our teachers has been called away from earth. Miss Ella Harriott, teacher of class No. 6 for five years, has been transferred to the church triumphant. Owing to failing health she has not taught her class for several months, but her name remained upon our roll as a teacher and her place is made vacant only by her death. Her name will be called no more at the regular roll call, but her devotion to her class, her loyalty to this school, her unfailing and unceasing interest in its prosperity, even when she could no longer attend, her enjoyment in the work of teaching, her careful preparation and thoughtful study of the word of God, her consistent Christian character, her unwavering faith, her heroic struggle for life, her cheerfulness in the face of death, will ever be cherished by us as a sacred recollection. In her death her class sustains the loss of a devoted and competent teacher and a sincere and sympathetic friend; our school loses one of its most faithful members, who was always ready to work where she could for the school, and the church loses a consistent and beloved member. We extend to her friends and family our deepest sympathy, praying that God may graciously sustain them in their sorrow and loss which we share with them. We commend them to the Word of His grace, which she taught so long and so well. |
