Obituary: Another Old Pioneer Gone to Rest After years of suffering death came to the relief of Mrs. Annie Cathrine Harmon on Sunday morning, May 14, 1893. Grandma Harmon, as she was known by everybody, was an old resident of Freedom township, Henry county, for a number of years. She was highly respected by all that knew her, as her life was full of goodness and love to all. She lived to a ripe old age, being 82 years and 17 days old. For months she had been patiently waiting for the summons to take her from this place of pain and tribulation to her eternal rest. The husband and father was laid to rest eleven years ago hoping for a glorious resurrection. She leaves three children, two sons and one daughter and twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, besides many friends who mourne her departure; but may our loss be her eternal gain. She joined the Preabyterian church at the age of 22 years, and she has always been a constant member, a true christian friend and mother until death. Her maiden name was Annie Catharine Painter; she was born in Springfield township, Mahoning county, Ohio, April 27,1811,and was married to John Harmon April 6, 1837, and came to Henry county the same year; in 1843 he with his family moved back to Mahoning county; he being a miller got employment in a grist mill and worked at his trade until 1854, when he again removed to this county and took up their residence in Freedom township, where they resided until death. Funeral services were held at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Perry Durbin, with whom she had been making her home, at 10 a.m., Rev. Clover officiating; her remains were laid to rest in the Kline cemetery. |
