DEATH OF A PIONEER LADY.

Many friends and acquaintances were grieved to learn of the death of Mrs. Dorothy Groschner, a highly respected lady of Florida and the mother of Senator Groschner of this placeShe was an old pioneer and during her long life in Henry county has always, as a result of kindness, been surrounded by loving friends who mourn her departure from a life that she so nobly lived.

Mrs. Dorothy Groschner was born in the city of Badalban, Germany, September 15, 1812In 1832 at the age of 20, she was joined in holy wedlock to Jacob GroschnerThey were blessed with eleven children, seven of whom were laid away to rest before the family emigrated to this country in 1850With the remaining four the father and mother resided in Buffalo, New York about one yearIn 1852 they moved to DefianceRemaining here but a few months they moved to Florida, which place was made their home until 1866In that year the place of residence was changed, this time to NapoleonIn 1867 the husband and father diedDuring the war, Frederick, one of the sons, enlisted to fight for his country's cause and fell at its battle of Champion Hills, leaving behind the record of a brave soldier.

Mrs. Groschner during the eleven years of her life was a confirmed invalid but bore up heroically under her suffering. Up to the moment of her death she retained all her faculties ? being cognizant of all that passed and that the time was near to meet her makerShe was a devout Christian and died a glorious deathThree children ? H. C. Groschner,?Mrs. Redderson and Mrs. Goldenstar ? sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren survive herThe funeral was preached Tuesday at the Lutheran church in Florida by Rev. Shuriz The remains were brought to Napoleon and buried in Glenwood cemetery.
