Obituary - Drowned, near Texas, June 3rd, 1874, Edwin F., son of John W. Geering, aged 4 years, 6 months and 6 days.
Edwin was missed by his father about 7 o'clock P.M. His first impression was that he was in the canal, but hoped he was asleep somewhere about the house or barn. He was called but no answer returned. Dilligent search was made but he could not be found. They then commenced dragging the dock; this work was continued in vain until about 9 P.M. when Mr. Frank Showman (uncle of the boy) put down his rake near the wharf where a small tin pail had been found with which it was supposed the boy had been playing. The rake fastened on his clothes and the body was brought to the surface. This is a sad affliction for the family and friends. Edwin was a beautiful boy very much above the average in intelligence and manliness.
How soon are the most beautiful flowers and choicest fruit cut off by the untimely frost.
One little boy and girl are left to comfort and cheer the father and make home happy. The wife and mother was taken from them about two years ago. We trust mother and son have met.
