Obituary: ELLIS William Henry Ellis was born in Dublin, Ireland, July 25th, 1813, and died at his late residence in Monroe township, August 11th, 1890, aged 77 years and 16 days. The deceased left home when but 16 years of age and hired to a ship of war, after which he enlisted in the Seminole war, being a soldier in that for some time. He was also a soldier in the Mexican war, and at the beginning of the late Rebellion he enlisted in the three month's service and was a soldier all through the war. He was promoted to First Lieutenant of Company B of the 38th Ohio regiment. In all, the deceased was a soldier for about 19 years and 6 months, this being a long time to be exposed to the perils of life to which a soldier is exposed. He was a resident of Henry county for about 33 years, having some experience of the wilds of northwestern Ohio. His funeral services were held in the U. B church, of Malinta, Rev. A. F. Beery officiating, after which the remains were interred in the cemetery of the Hoy Evangelical church under the ceremony of the G. A. R. Post, of which the deceased was a member He was the father of 10 children, 6 of whom proceeded him to the spirit world. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, 4 children and 4 grandchildren. In their sore bereavement may they not forget to cast their burden upon the Lord who is able to sustain them. F. B. |
